The Opportunity
Description:
For over 20 years, our client’s New Zealand–based team has been a Kiwi success story trusted by health organizations, logistics providers and manufacturers globally. They’re now seeking an Intermediate Firmware Engineer to design, build and test the embedded software that powers our next-generation data loggers. You’ll own projects from initial concept through production, ensure regulatory compliance, support deployed devices and collaborate across hardware, QA and customer-facing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead firmware architecture, development and validation for bare-metal embedded systems
Maintain and troubleshoot existing firmware across manufacturing and field devices
Plan and drive projects—define scope, manage schedules, mitigate risks and deliver on time
Ensure quality and customer requirements are met, working closely with support and QA
Foster teamwork, clear communication and a positive, goal-oriented environment
Your Background
Experience in bare-metal embedded firmware development REQUIRED - we need a higher % of experience in bare metals vs RTOS
Strong C programming skills and familiarity with IoT communications - radio wifi or cellular particularly (this is nice to have)
Proficient in on-chip debugging tools and hardware diagnostics
Solid understanding of embedded design principles and real-time protocols
Self-motivated, deadline-driven, with exceptional time management
Collaborative mindset and excellent verbal/written communication
Eager to learn new technologies and continuously improve processes
