Our client is migrating their reporting environment from Power BI to Tableau and needs an experienced BI Developer to help make it happen. If you know Power BI inside out and have enough Tableau exposure to hit the ground running — or you're keen to deepen your Tableau skills as part of a structured migration — this is a solid contract with a clear scope and a defined timeline.

The context
This is a hands-on contract role focused on translating an existing Power BI reporting suite into Tableau. You'll need to understand the current state deeply, work with stakeholders to validate requirements, and rebuild dashboards and data models that are clean, performant, and fit for purpose in the new environment.

This is a 3-6 months contract and would need to be in Auckland due to the need to be on site for about 2-3 days weekly.

What you'll be doing

• Assessing and documenting the existing Power BI reporting suite — understanding what exists, what's used, and what actually needs to be migrated
• Rebuilding dashboards, reports, and data models in Tableau with a focus on performance, usability, and maintainability
• Working with business stakeholders to validate requirements and ensure the migrated output meets their needs
• Identifying opportunities to improve and rationalise reporting during the migration — not just a like-for-like rebuild where it doesn't make sense
• Documenting the new reporting environment to support handover and long-term maintainability

What we're looking for

• Solid Power BI experience at an intermediate to senior level — you know the platform well enough to assess and translate what's there
• Tableau experience or a strong, demonstrable willingness to get up to speed quickly — the migration is the job
• Strong SQL skills and a good understanding of data modelling — you can work with the underlying data, not just the visuals
• Comfortable engaging with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and validate outputs
• A delivery mindset — this is a fixed-scope contract with a timeline, so you'll need to be organised and self-directed

Nice to have
Prior experience on a BI platform migration · Familiarity with DAX, Power Query, or Tableau Prep · Exposure to data warehouse or lakehouse environments · Experience working across multiple business units or reporting domains
