The Opportunity
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Microsoft Purview Engineer for an initial 3-month contract delivering a hands-on implementation and configuration programme within a large, complex environment.
You'll assess the existing Purview environment, identify technical gaps and work across multiple stakeholder teams to understand their requirements. From there, you'll design and configure the appropriate controls across information classification, data protection and Microsoft 365 compliance.
This is a technical delivery role rather than a governance or policy engagement, so we're looking for someone who can get hands-on with Purview configuration and implementation from day one.

What You'll Be Doing
- Assess the existing Microsoft Purview environment and identify technical gaps and requirements
- Design and configure sensitivity labels, label policies and client-side/service-side auto-labelling
- Build sensitive information types, including custom SITs, EDM and trainable classifiers
- Configure and support DLP across Microsoft 365 workloads
- Support testing, troubleshooting, technical documentation and knowledge handover
- Strong hands-on Microsoft Purview implementation and configuration experience
- Deep expertise across information classification, sensitivity labels, auto-labelling and data protection
- Strong experience with DLP across Microsoft 365 workloads
- Experience across retention, records management, audit and eDiscovery capabilities
- Knowledge of Data Map / Unified Catalog scanning, classification and lineage
- Endpoint DLP experience
- Experience with sensitivity label inheritance into Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
- Microsoft SC-400 certification
- Experience mapping labelling taxonomies to organisational or government classification schemes
- Previous delivery experience within government, regulated or security-conscious environments
- Initial 3-month contract with potential to extend
- Fully remote working anywhere in New Zealand
