Are you an experienced Solution Architect who enjoys getting into the detail of solution design, solving complex integration challenges and seeing solutions through to delivery?
We're working with an established New Zealand organisation operating a complex, business-critical technology environment. They are looking for a Senior Solution Architect to join their architecture function and take ownership of end-to-end solution design across enterprise applications, legacy platforms, on-premises infrastructure and cloud services.
This is a hands-on architecture role, rather than a purely strategic or governance-focused position. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, engineering teams, infrastructure specialists and cyber security to design practical, resilient and supportable solutions.

The Role
You'll be responsible for taking solutions from initial concept through detailed design, implementation and deployment, ensuring they meet business requirements while balancing cost, security, resilience and long-term supportability.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing end-to-end solutions across enterprise applications, on-premises systems and Azure/AWS cloud environments.
• Developing hybrid architectures that integrate existing technology platforms with modern applications and services.
• Designing for high availability, redundancy, failover and disaster recovery, with a clear understanding of RTO/RPO requirements.
• Assessing and selecting integration approaches, including APIs, event-driven architecture, messaging queues, file-based interfaces, ETL and batch versus real-time processing.
• Producing solution architecture documentation, evaluating technical options and explaining architectural trade-offs.
• Presenting designs through Architecture Review Boards and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and cyber security standards.
• Working with security teams to identify risks, manage compliance exceptions and escalate architectural concerns where appropriate.
• Collaborating with development, infrastructure and delivery teams to ensure solutions are implemented as designed.

You
We're interested in experienced Solution Architects who have worked in complex enterprise environments and can demonstrate a strong technical foundation alongside effective stakeholder engagement. Ideally, you'll bring:

• Proven experience designing and delivering end-to-end enterprise application solutions.
• Solid architecture experience across traditional on-premises infrastructure, cloud and hybrid environments.
• Strong Azure experience, although equivalent AWS expertise will also be considered.
• Practical knowledge of Windows Server Failover Clustering and SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, including how these support application availability and resilience.
• A sound understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, redundancy, failover and eliminating single points of failure.
• Broad enterprise integration experience beyond REST APIs, including messaging, event-driven patterns, file-based integrations, ETL and asynchronous processing.
• The ability to select appropriate integration patterns and explain trade-offs around performance, security, resilience and maintainability.
• Experience participating in Architecture Review Boards, design assurance and architecture governance processes.
• Working knowledge of cyber security frameworks such as NIST and CIS, including risk assessment, compliance exceptions and escalation.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage, influence and challenge senior stakeholders, vendors and technical specialists.
